Tips and Tricks for Summer Stitching On-The-Go

Happy summer from Elizabeth Bradley! Many of us will be taking the time to travel and make the most of this wonderful season, but that doesn’t mean your needlepoint kits need to stay behind! There’s nothing more enjoyable than soaking up the sunshine with a new stitching project, especially with an exciting change of scenery. Keep reading for tips and tricks for bringing your projects along for the journey.

  1. Consider the logistics. Where you’re going, how you’re getting there, and what’s on your itinerary are all things to consider when deciding on a stitching project to take on holiday. If you’re a passenger on a train, plane, or in the car, you may have more downtime than if you’re personally driving, biking, or hiking. You should also decide beforehand how much time you plan to dedicate to your needlepoint piece once you’ve reached your destination. When flying, always remember to double-check your airline’s requirements to ensure you can bring your tools (such as scissors) along with you.

  1. Make it a resort stitching piece. Resort stitching is a popular needlepoint trend that involves crafting your own memorabilia from your travels in lieu of shopping for souvenirs. Choose a design that correlates with your destination, such as native plants, florals, or animals, and use your canvas to capture fond memories from your trip. You’ll be reminded of your incredible adventure every time you stop to admire your finished piece!

  1. Opt for smaller kits. If your luggage space is limited, we recommend packing a few of our mini kits or a 12” kit rather than a larger piece. These scaled-down designs will make stitching more manageable, especially when travelling from place to place. You can also rotate projects when taking extended trips!

  1. Organise your supplies. Keeping your stitching materials tidy is essential, especially while on the go. Protect your designs with our logo kit bag, which can fit any kit 16″ or smaller, and carry your tools in a logo accessories bag. Don’t forget to pack extra needles, and tie up your threads in an acrylic wool organiser before you depart to prevent any tangles. You can also choose an accessory pack (available in two sizes) for a combination of must-have supplies and handy storage solutions.

  1. Let everyone in on the fun. It’s always a pleasure to share your love for stitching with others! Introduce your travel companions to the world of needlepoint, and you’ll be able to support each other as you work on your projects anywhere you go. Our easy-to-follow instructions and precision-printed canvases will have new needlepointers perfecting their technique in no time at all.
